The Route

Challenge Yourself

Cycle 280Km from Croke Park Stadium to Croagh Patrick!

Leaving from central Dublin this two day cycle challenge traverses the country. The route will be on well researched paved roads through scenic countryside utilising secondary and tertiary roads to minimise traffic and ensure the cycling is enjoyable.

One of the great benefits of traversing the country is the opportunity to engage with the landscape and immerse oneself in places not normally encountered. The terrain is not unduly challenging, with no major climbs along the route. However day 2 (being a shorter day) will offer the opportunity for the more experienced cyclists to tackle the Partry Mountains with stunning views of Lough Mask and Croagh Patrick.

The days will be broken into manageable chunks with regular (every 25-30km) stops for food and water. Lunch is always taken at a pub or café to ensure some time of the bike, a chance to shelter in case of poor (or even hot) weather and the use of proper toilet facilities.

Saturday 3rd June

Croke Park to Carrick on Shannon (165 km)

Although a long day the terrain is very easy going with no major climbs.

The starting point is Croke Park and cyclists will be organised into groups according to ability.

The route will quickly see you leave Dublin and using mainly secondary and tertiary roads cross into the scenic and easygoing Boyne valley. Our destination is the lovely located Carrick-on-Shannon, a lively weekend hotspot.

Sunday 4th June

Carrick to Croagh Patrick/Westport (118 km)

Having now crossed the Shannon the landscape changes with seemingly wide open spaces and dry stone walls. The terrain is still very much benign making for quick progress. After a brief lunch in Claremorris the mountains come into view and become the fixed point on the horizon. Approaching from this side Croagh Patrick can be clearly seen dominating the peaks.

Westport is perhaps the most attractive town in Ireland and a great place to finish a cycle. Accommodation is arranged in the Castlecourt and Westport Plaza hotels, next to each other in the centre of the town where you will enjoy a gala dinner to celebrate your great achievement.

Monday 5th June

Transfer back to Dublin

After a leisurely breakfast in our Westport hotels you will be brought back to Dublin (approx 3.5 hours) by private motor coach, while your bikes will be carefully transported back.
